Fruit Smoothies

Blueberry Banana Yogurt Smoothie

Blueberries turn a simple banana smoothie a deep purple, while a spoonful of yogurt softens the flavor. Apple juice provides the blending liquid. This recipe is useful when you want a small smoothie to share, especially if there is already other food on the breakfast table.

Fresh blueberries give an easily pourable result. Frozen blueberries usually make the drink thicker and colder, though the exact texture depends on your blender and the temperature of the other ingredients. The optional mint is best treated as a gentle accent: start with a few small leaves so it does not overwhelm the fruit.

Tips and variations

Plain yogurt lets you control the flavor without introducing vanilla or another competing fruit. A thicker Greek yogurt may require slightly more water than natural yogurt. Because only a small amount is used, this recipe should not be assumed to provide the protein of a full yogurt serving.

For a dairy-free variation, use a plain plant-based yogurt and check its ingredient label if you also need it to be vegan. Plant yogurts differ considerably in protein and calcium. Rinse the blender soon after pouring: blueberry residue is easier to remove before it dries, and a quick cleanup makes repeat preparation more convenient.

Ingredient health benefits

  • Blueberries contribute fiber; dietary fiber supports bowel regularity as part of an appropriate overall diet.
  • Banana contributes potassium, needed for normal nerve signaling.
