Fruit Smoothies

Creamy Strawberry Avocado Smoothie

Avocado gives this strawberry smoothie a creamy texture without using banana. Strawberries provide the fruit flavor, while milk and plain yogurt create an easy-to-blend base. A little citrus juice brightens the mixture, making this a useful option when you enjoy a creamy smoothie with a gentle tang.

Use avocado that is ripe enough to mash easily. Firm avocado can leave small pieces behind, even after extended blending. Check the flesh before measuring, and use only the sound, edible portion. With just half an avocado required, the recipe also gives you a practical way to use a leftover half.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 ripe avocado, peeled and stone removed
  • 150 g strawberries, washed and hulled
  • 4 tablespoons plain low-fat natural yogurt
  • 200 ml reduced-fat milk
  • 1 teaspoon lemon or lime juice, plus more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon honey, optional

Directions

  1. Put the milk, yogurt, and citrus juice into the blender. Add the strawberries and avocado.
  2. Blend until creamy, stopping before scraping down the sides if necessary.
  3. Taste. Add the optional honey only if you want it sweeter, then blend briefly and divide equally between two glasses.

Notes

Serving volumes and nutrition totals have not been verified. Citrus and optional honey were unspecified in the source; one teaspoon of each is an editorial starting point. Contains milk.

Tips and variations

The thickness depends on both the avocado and the yogurt. If the mixture is difficult to pour, add milk one tablespoon at a time. Frozen strawberries make a colder variation, but may also require more liquid. Avoid adding a large quantity at once, which can hide the strawberry flavor.

For a dairy-free variation, replace both the milk and yogurt with suitable plant-based products. Check their labels because calcium and protein vary, and omit honey if making a vegan version. The small starting amount of citrus is deliberate: add more after tasting, rather than letting it dominate. Pour into glasses soon after blending for the most appealing color and texture.

Ingredient health benefits

  • Strawberries supply vitamin C, used by the body in collagen formation.
  • Milk and yogurt provide calcium, needed to maintain bones and teeth.
