Honey Turmeric Mango Carrot Smoothie

Mango and orange form a fruit base for carrot, ginger, and turmeric. Honey adds sweetness, making the default vegetarian rather than vegan. The mango softens some of the spices' sharper edges without making the ginger and turmeric disappear completely.

Ingredients

  • 1 inch ginger root peeled
  • 1 orange, zest reserved, then peeled and seeded
  • 0.75 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 0.5 cup frozen mango chunks
  • 0.5 cup carrot slices, prepared according to package instructions, cooled, then frozen
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric, ground

Directions

  1. Pour the measured liquid into the blender. Add the softer prepared ingredients first, keeping the frozen pieces separated so they can move toward the blades instead of forming a solid block above them.
  2. Add the remaining edible ingredients, including the measured fruit, nuts, seeds, or spices listed for this recipe. Blend until evenly combined. Use the machine instructions to choose a suitable speed, and stop before checking texture or scraping the jug.
  3. Taste a small spoonful after blending. If the mixture is too thick to pour, add cold water one tablespoon at a time and blend briefly again. Divide the base batch into 1 serving and enjoy promptly.

Notes

Contains tree nuts. Prepared ingredients are required; additional cooking, cooling, freezing, brewing, or soaking time is excluded from the active prep estimate. Serving volume and nutrition totals are not measured.

Tips and ingredient notes

Zest the orange before peeling, using only colored skin. Prepare frozen carrot as its package directs and cool first. Measure turmeric carefully and rinse utensils promptly because the pigment can stain light surfaces.

Measure mango after removing skin and the flat central stone. Frozen pieces give a more repeatable portion than estimating a whole fruit. Break apart any pieces stuck together before blending, especially when other ingredients are frozen too.

Fresh carrot is easier to blend when grated or finely chopped. Packaged frozen carrot may require cooking before use; follow its instructions and cool it completely. Large hard pieces can remain noticeable even when the softer fruits around them have become smooth.

Ingredient health benefits

  • Carrot contributes carotenoids that the body can convert into vitamin A.
  • Mango adds dietary fiber, which supports normal bowel function.
