Strawberry Kiwi Orange Kale Smoothie

Kiwi and strawberry bring a tangy fruit pairing to a kale-based smoothie. Orange supplies much of the juice, and banana adds body. Lemon sharpens the finish, making this combination suitable for people who enjoy a pronounced citrus flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup kale
  • 2 oranges, peeled, seeded and segmented
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 kiwi, peeled
  • 0.5 banana, peeled
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Directions

  1. Place the juiciest prepared fruit or vegetables near the blender blades, followed by the softer ingredients. Begin blending gently so they release liquid. If the machine cannot move the mixture, stop and add a small splash of cold water.
  2. Add the remaining edible ingredients, including the measured fruit, nuts, seeds, or spices listed for this recipe. Blend until evenly combined. Use the machine instructions to choose a suitable speed, and stop before checking texture or scraping the jug.
  3. Taste a small spoonful after blending. If the mixture is too thick to pour, add cold water one tablespoon at a time and blend briefly again. Divide the base batch into 1 serving and enjoy promptly.

Tips and ingredient notes

Peel kiwi and oranges and remove orange seeds. Kiwi seeds can remain visible after blending. Taste before adding extra lemon, since the acidity of the other fruits already varies naturally.

Wash fresh strawberries before removing their tops, then measure the usable fruit. Plain frozen strawberries are convenient when fresh fruit is inconsistent. Avoid sweetened dessert berries, which change the balance and make it harder to compare one batch with another.

Peel the orange fully and remove hard seeds before adding it. A little white pith is normal, but thick peel creates bitterness. Smaller segments release juice sooner, which is useful when the recipe starts with only a modest amount of added liquid.

Ingredient health benefits

  • Kale contributes folate, needed for normal cell division.
